As times change and the world becomes a fast paced, multitasking environment to live in, we look for systems that will help us manage tedious daily jobs easily and more efficiently. The CCTV industry is a great example of how technology is advancing and how it is benefiting our lives and businesses today. In this article we will be discussing the features surrounding the analytics on CCTV NVR systems such as: LPR (Licences plate recognition) foreign object detection and Facial recognition.
License Plate Recognition Solutions:
License plate recognition (LPR), is a rapidly expanding technology, there are many mixed feelings about this type of surveillance and the effect of which mass surveillance has on society. Although this criticism does justify some concern from our population and the need to protect ourselves from an electronic police state, It does not outweigh the benefits such as been able to track hijackers or stolen cars more efficiently, enforcing road laws and making our roads a safer place for us all and the general well-being of our motorists. Number plate recognition systems use a data capturing method called optical character recognition as well as infrared lighting to allow the camera to take pictures any time of the day in order to read the images. Optical character recognition is the automatic adaptation of scanned images into machine programmed text.

Foreign Object Detection Solutions:
Foreign Object detection is mostly used for detecting foreign objects in public areas such as airports. Although these systems can be quite high in costs the expenses that would be outlaid if the foreign object is not detected far outweighs this initial set up capital. Foreign object detection works on an automatic system that will pick up if an object suddenly appears in a CCTV video feed view for a period of time, it will then post a warning alerting whoever is in charge. FAA has expressed its approval of these systems and the advantages they offer to airports, public transport stations and general high risk public environments.

Facial Recognition CCTV Solutions:
A facial recognition system is a system used to identify or verify a person’s face from a CCTV image by comparing facial features from a facial database. This traditional method of facial recognition analyses the relative position, size, shape of the face and the database system identifies with this. Facial recognition systems come in three different forms, traditional, 3-dimensional and skin texture analysis.3-dimensional face recognition systems are said to have improved accuracy when capturing information about the shape of the a face. This system identifies distinctive contours on a face and is not affected by changes in lighting. Skin Texture analysis as an addition to the traditional facial recognition systems or 3-dimensional systems, can increase the performance in recognizing a face by 30 percent. This technique uses unique lines, patterns and facial spots in a person’s skin to help identify them.
